Fusing with the Hot Iron
Andrea Bird presented to workshop participants at the 3rd Annual Encaustic Conference – Montserrat School of Art, 2009
If you’ve watched the YouTube video demonstrations of how to use the encaustic iron you may think it is just for landscapes and florals. Andrea demonstrated techniques that appeal to collage and abstract encaustic artist. Techniques demonstrated included:
- creating texture with the iron
- ironing over drops and drips so that they appear flat
- filling gouges with the iron
- using the iron as a hot gouging tool
- ironing in and over organic materials
- ironing edges
- ironing in collage elements
